About Us

Our Initiative

An initiative dedicated to improving the lives of sanitation workers by recognising their challenges and providing the necessary support!

Our organisation seeks to empower the sanitation workers of India by bringing to light their struggles and uplifting their societal positions.

We work to provide them with medical assistance through health checkups and raise awareness for their cause. Having been dedicated to the cause for over a year now, we have made considerable impact in their communities.

Sahayta Square’s team comprises of all the members as well as the sanitation workers we help. Our impact spans across the community of sanitation workers based in an area of Ahmedabad. Our soon-to-be-released documentary brings forward the stories and struggles of sanitation workers.

our mission

Mission and Vision

  • To accelerate the upliftment of sanitation workers’ lives and health in India. To raise awareness about and alleviate their suffering.
  • A world where the hard work and sacrifice of those who clean after us tirelessly is respected. A world where it is recognised that we are the kachra walas, not them.

The team

Here’s a little more about us!

Aarini Sheth

Co-Founder
Hello! I'm Aarini Sheth, a 17 year old passionately devoted to the cause of sanitation workers. I have always been interested in helping the community around me, be it through expressions of dance or education. But, one research paper regarding the dismal conditions of safai karamcharis affected me deeply. Ever since, I have taken every opportunity to give safai karamcharis the respect they rightly deserve.

Saumya Sheth

Co-Founder
Hi! I’m Saumya Sheth. My passion for this initiative begun when I searched up manual scavenger deaths in India, and could only find contrasting numbers. This community is the foundation of our society, and I could not be more grateful that I get the chance to advocate for them everyday.

Nakshatra Charan

Photographer
Hii, I am Nakshatra Charan. My interests are photography, filmmaking, video editing and just about anything related to that field. I decided to work with Sahayta square when my friend told me about the reality of scavenger workers in India. Working with this foundation is really fulfilling knowing that I’m not just sitting around and looking at what is happening, I’m a part of a community that is actively trying to bring a change.

Norine Mehta

Chief Operating Officer
Hey, I am Norine Mehta. Joining Sahayta Square wasn't just a step into a new role—it was a leap into a deeper cognizance of the world around me. I initially connected with the team for a fundraiser project but I quickly found our goals and ethics to be perfectly aligned and so for me, the choice between being a passive bystander and actively supporting this cause was clear. It was clear that I couldn't sit on the sidelines when so many go unrecognized for their crucial work.

Devam Patel

Accounts Manager
Hello, I'm Devam! I've always aspired to bring about a “big difference” in society. Hence, Sahayta! I am keen to establish more events in future, and raise funds for the “big difference” amongst sanitation workers. I feel they have the talents, they lack access to resources. They can have an impact on society and my objective is to have make them independent and create an impact!
